Here we are.
The carpet has been ripped from underneath our feet and we are sitting on our buttocks wondering what the heck to do next.
It’s time to launch Life: Version B.
And I am so ready for it.
I once heard a lyric in an Afrikaans song that has stuck with me.
“Jy kan nie ‘n groot les, klein leer nie.“
Translated that roughly means that you cannot learn a big lesson in a small way.
Transformation, growth and change is hard.
Altering one’s mindset is even more difficult.
We as humans are programmed to love routine and order.
We find it hard to adapt to change… at first.
Once we embrace the fact that change is one of the only few constants in life, we forget how things were in the first place.
We are all so very beautifully flawed and full of contradictions.
We resist adjustment but also have the ability to adapt perfectly to any challenge we may face.
Do we not recognize the power within us or are we scared we may be more capable than what we can comprehend?
Fearful of what we can achieve if we just hit the grindstone and do the work?
I have seen tremendous hardships, sadness, anxiety and despair these last few days.
We are all in the same boat, but definitely not in the same storm.
It is especially easy to fall into a negative state of mind and trap yourself within a discouraging news cycle.
I am extremely wary of this. It takes almost all my energy, but I will not surrender my power to despair.
We may entertain a dance now and then, but it will not take up residence inside my mind.
There are a lot of good and positive stories out there too. It’s good to notice them and let yourself be energized by the light they bring to your inner world.
And if you think you are not seeing anything positive happening around you, why not bring the good vibes to the party yourself?
Small acts of gentleness, kindness, compassion and empathy will hardly cost me anything and can maybe be the only good thing someone experienced that day.
Notice the power we have within our control?
The ability to make a difference is always within you.
And it does not have to be a massive extravaganza.
One kind word to a stranger or word of appreciation to a grocery store clerk can also do the trick.
Change and innovation is good!
We have this once in a lifetime opportunity to acclimate to a new way of life and we have nothing to lose.
I cannot fear failure as all of this is brand spanking new.
Life Version B – where failure is unknown, and everything is different.
A sometimes scary, but amazingly empowering thought.
You can literally become anything you want after this and no one will bat an eyelash.
I cannot learn a big lesson in a small way.
And this life stage is one of the hugest challenges I have ever had to face.
Nothing can really scare me after I survive this.
Everything will feel magical and new like through the eyes of a child.
Life B – I’m coming for you.
